Four remanded for attacking journalist during city polls

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed four accused held in a case lodged for attempting to murder journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon while covering recently-held Dhaka city polls, on a day remand each.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order, placing Alauddin, 26, Masud Miah, 20, Russel Hossain, 35, and Apu Miah, 28, on remand.

The court passed the order as police produced the four before court and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand each.
Sumon was brutally hacked by alleged cadres of newly-elected councilor of ward-34 of Dhaka North City Corporation Sheikh Mohammad Hossain Khokon on February 1 polls day, as the journalist was trying to take photographs of armed goons campaigning for Khokon.

The case was filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
